Saint Anthony Hospital cares for children and young adults in a compassionate, family-centered environment.

Committed to treating the specialized needs of children in an environment designed specifically for them, the Pediatrics Department at Saint Anthony Hospital recognizes that when it comes to children’s health, one size does not fit all.

EMSC

Our goal is to provide care during hospitalization that is therapeutic, non-threatening, and comforting. Parental involvement and presence are highly encouraged. Our comprehensive Pediatrics Department includes a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient services.

Emergency Department

The Saint Anthony Hospital Emergency Department is approved for pediatrics through a voluntary certification process of the Illinois Department of Public Health. The department handles a large number of pediatric visits; about 40% of the total visits are children.

Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)

As a community hospital, Saint Anthony Hospital has some unique features. We offer 24/7 coverage by board-certified pediatric critical care physicians. The IMCU provides continuous monitoring and treatment modalities that cannot be performed in the regular ward.

The following are some examples of conditions that are managed in the IMCU:

  • Respiratory Failure
  • Non-invasive Ventilation
  • High-flow Nasal Cannula
  • Intubation
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  • Status Asthmaticus
  • Seizures
  • Dehydration
  • Bronchiolitis
  • Post-operative Monitoring

Neonatology

We provide comprehensive care to sick newborns using a multidisciplinary team approach. Experienced nurses, respiratory therapists, and neonatal nurse practitioners provide around-the-clock care under the close supervision of in-house board-certified neonatologists.

Inpatient Unit

A large number of pediatric ailments that require the child to be admitted to the hospital are managed by a well-trained group of registered nurses and board-certified pediatric hospitalists who are available 24 hours a day.

Outpatient Office

In the Physician Center, a provider-based location of Saint Anthony Hospital, we have board-certified general pediatricians and an array of pediatric subspecialties, another unique feature for a community hospital. The following subspecialty clinics are available:

  • Pediatric Cardiology
  • Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
  • Pediatric Allergy and Asthma
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Neurology
  • Pediatric Gastroenterology

Medical Education

Residents from John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital train at Saint Anthony Hospital alongside medical students from Ross University School of Medicine.
