Our Community Wellness Program prepares teens to make informed choices about their health.
Partnering with schools and youth organizations in North Lawndale, our Community Wellness Program provides comprehensive and culturally competent information to adolescents about important health issues, including HIV, in order to help them make more informed and healthy choices. We also provide education and support to pregnant and parenting teens to improve birth and early childhood outcomes.
Our community resource educators use the Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) curriculum to present information related to reproductive health and the following topics:
- puberty/bodily changes
- decision making
- reproductive system
- touch and abstinence
We use the American Red Cross African American HIV Prevention to present information related to HIV and the following topics:
- discussing the facts about HIV and AIDS
- building prevention skills
- community mobilizations
Our staff present information to adolescents but do not present opinions about choices they should make related to reproductive health.
