Saint Anthony Hospital Pediatrics Little Tony's Outdoor Wellness

We are thrilled to announce that we added a new option for our pediatric patients and their parents to feel safer in keeping children’s appointments and wellness checks, especially as you prepare for the new school year.  “Little Tony’s Outdoor  Wellness Clinic” officially opened on Thursday, June 18th!

Located outside the main hospital, you will be able to drive right up to the clinic tent and use your own car as a ‘waiting room’.  In addition to offering something new for kids to make their appointment more fun, the outdoor space allows for increased social distancing and less exposure to other hospital patients and visitors.

Inpatient and Specialty Care

Pediatric illnesses that require the child to be admitted to the hospital are managed by board-certified pediatric hospitalists, critical care physicians and specialized registered nurses 24/7. The Pediatrics floor includes an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and Level II nursery. The IMCU provides continuous monitoring and treatment modalities that cannot be performed in the regular ward.

Conditions managed in the IMCU include:
  • Respiratory failure
  • Noninvasive ventilation
  • High-flow nasal cannula
  • Intubation
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Status asthmaticus (Severe asthma attack)
  • Seizures
  • Dehydration
  • Bronchiolitis
  • Post-operative monitoring

We provide comprehensive care to sick newborns using a multidisciplinary team approach. Experienced nurses, respiratory therapists, and neonatal nurse practitioners provide around-the-clock care under the close supervision of board-certified neonatologists.

Emergency Department

Saint Anthony Hospital is approved by the State of Illinois as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) for having the essential resources and capabilities to meet the emergency and critical care needs of seriously ill and injured children. Saint Anthony has been EDAP Certified since 1998, with extensive experience in the treatment of appendicitis, asthma, bronchiolitis and pneumonia, among other critical conditions. Each year, one-third of the hospital emergency visits are children. SAH Emergency also features a separate Fast Track area for less severe cases.

Pediatric Specialists

Saint Anthony has also partnered with the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital to bring pediatric specialists closer to our community. We provide pediatric subspecialties including: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Hematology-Oncology, Orthopaedics, and Asthma / Pulmonary Medicine.
